Fire and Focus

After being spiritually out of the office over the hot summer months, I returned with a passion – the fire – and focus. Sometimes a couple of weeks off to travel, get a different perspective and walk away from work for a minute is all it takes to get renewed.
There was an interesting article the other day in the ATD (Association of Talent Development) magazine that talked about the “epidemic of inattention.” According to their research, the average person spends 151 minutes on social media – per day! They also coined a phrase I found interesting – “presenteeism” where someone is physically present but emotionally and mentally absent.
As leaders, how do we engage the fire and focus of those we work with? An astonishingly low number of people according to Gallup polls are actively engaged -about 1 out of every 3 employees.
Reflection Question: What steps can you take as a leader to stoke the fire and focus of those you lead?
